Wow, I can't believe its been over a week now since we welcome our new babies into our lives! We love them so much and can't get enough of them!
Some of you may still be wondering how we ended up in the hospital a few days earlier than expected so here is the story. On Friday I went to my FINAL non stress test. I have been going to 2 of those a week for the last month or so. If you don't know what an NST is, they basically strap a couple monitors on my belly that measure the babies heart rates. They look to see them have a couple of good accelerations in there heart rate which are generally the result of them moving around. There is also a monitor that measures any contractions I might be having and another button that I push anytime I feel them moving. This whole process of getting me strapped up, finding their heart beats and waiting usually takes around an hour.
Since I had seen the OB the day before and we were all set for going in Sunday night to be induced, Adam tried to convince me that I shouldn't even go to the NST (we had just got the billing statement showing how much it cost every time I went!). But I of course went anyway. This time we got strapped up and I watched the monitor, I had a mild contraction (seriously mild) and Charlie's heart rate dropped, and it stayed down for a couple minutes. The Dr at the lab called my OB and they both thought it best I go straight to the hospital for further monitoring and she indicated I would likely be having my babies that night! Holy cow! I left, called Adam and told him to leave work and meet me there. They said I shouldn't even go home to grab anything, and of course I didn't get anything to eat either.
We got to the hospital where I again got strapped up with the monitors. The babies were perfectly fine. We watched their heart rates for an hour or so in triage and the lab tech kept coming in saying they looked beautiful. She was under the impression we would be sent back home. So we were pretty confused and kept calling family saying we don't know whats going on, but we may or may not be having our babies tonight! Finally the lab tech came back in and told us she wasn't aware before but we were actually being admitted and they were just cleaning up a room for us upstairs and then we would be moved.
Around 8 on Friday they began to induce me. I was having some contractions, but honestly they weren't even bad and sometimes I didn't even notice them. However, just sitting in the bed in one position was really hard and made my back hurt; I kept trying to adjust but every time I moved the babies would jump off the monitor and they would have to reset them (sometimes I didn't even move and they would jump off; this was common through all my NST's). Finally around midnight I told them to just give me the epidural so I wouldn't be moving around. At this point I was only dilated between a 3 and 4. Around 3 am they came in and broke my water and I was dilated to a 5. 2 hours later they checked me, still a 5. At 7 am they checked again and I was still only at a 5. At this point the Dr explained that we had given it a really good shot at trying to go vaginally but as I wasn't progressing and as we had see Charlie's heart rate drop that one time (he never dropped again the whole night), it would be best just to go forward with the C section.

It was time for the shift change though, so I was switched to a new Dr. But everything went so fast and by 8:19 and 8:20 they were here! Everything went smooth for the babies, I on the other hand was a mess. I was nauseas and since they had laid me down, I was extremely light headed. I was shaking really bad (well just my arms since the rest of me was completely numb). I kept trying to calm myself but I just felt awful. Plus I had a cough and trying to cough while lying down and having no feeling to be able to do so wasn't so enjoyable. I threw up on the operating table and was just anxious for the whole thing to be over with. Luckily it did go quickly. I was still very sick afterwards for quite awhile and still shaking for a long while as well.
Charlie was born first at 8:19. They told Adam that it was a good thing that we did the C Section because although both babies were head down, Charlie's feet were clear up at his head too! And a week later, he still likes his legs curled up. Adam cut the cord and started taking pictures right away. Charlie was small so I didn't even feel them tug him out and he didn't cry, he just looked around with wide eyes. Adella, came 1 minute later at 8:20 and she was a screamer! Since she was a little bigger I definitely felt them tug her out! You can see her here with the oxygen. He just looks at her like she is crazy!
Before I ever saw them in person, Adam brought over the camera to show me the pictures. Love at first sight! Adella was so feminine that I could tell right away she was the girl! (Its pretty obvious which one is which once you know the weights too!)
Adam got to carry the babies to the nursery while I was getting sewn back up.
