One morning we ventured down to the Colonial Zone. This is the old historic part of Santo Domingo. This is where Christopher Columbus made many of his stops and where the people built their city. You can see many of the original buildings and structures still standing.
This is random, but I thought it was interesting how this worker was sweeping, she's using a palm leaf!

I also thought it was random to see this big Coca Cola tram a midst all these historic buildings!
The little white house across the bay is where they originally settled, however they were being severely attacked by ants so the moved to the other side of the bay.

The museum wasn't open the day we went, so since we had extra days, we went back to check it out.
This peacock was in the courtyard and gave us quite a show!
We did a lot of souvenir shopping in this area, and most of it was at yellow steps!
It was neat to be able to see all the history of the area, I just love when you can make history actually come alive! History was never my favorite subject, but I actually enjoy it so much when you can visit and see things in person!
