Mom

My mom left today. S-A-D, SAD!   Seriously, I cried on the way home after dropping her off.  Not a reaction I anticipated.  I haven't done that since they dropped me off for college.   There is just something about becoming a M-O-M, MOM, yourself that just makes you appreciate your mom so much more.  Am I right?  I'm sure this must happen to every other mom out there.   Maybe its because my mom has been here for two weeks doing just about everything for me, and before that Adam's mom was here for two weeks doing just about everything for me.  That means, for the last month I haven't cooked or cleaned.   That includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and all!  I've had full breakfasts every morning, whatever I wanted (I may or may not have consumed more bacon in the last month than I have in the last year).   I haven't vacuumed or mopped, or emptied the dishwasher or done more than a handful of dishes.   I hadn't cleaned a bottle and only changed about half the diapers that needed changing everyday (OK, probably more like 1/3 when you count in Adam's share at night!).   So pretty much Mom's are the best and I just hope I can be just as great as both of Adam and I's Mom's.  We've been pretty blessed!   And I know our little ones will be blessed to have two awesome Grandma's (and Grandpa's) as well.

I LOVE YOU MOM!

1 month

Here they are at one month!  I almost forgot to take these pictures and wanted to get them while we had some natural light coming in the house still, so these aren't the best and the babies weren't the most willing subjects because they were hungry, but at least we can see how big they are!  We also had their 1 month checkup today and everything is going just great!

A name and a blessing

On Sunday the twins were blessed in our ward.   In our church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, children are given names and blessings by members of the priesthood.  Generally, this is done by the Fathers.   So on Sunday, Adam was able to take both are babies in his arms, one by one, and give them a name and also a special blessing.

Some of you might be interested in how our babies names were chosen.   Both of them are named after family members.   Charles Ricky was named after several family members.   Adam's first name is really Charles though he has always been called by his middle name Adam.   Adam's dad is also Charles, but has always been called by his middle name Leon.   My Grandfather, my mom's dad, is also Charles so it seemed very fitting that our little guy be named Charles as well - and we will be calling him by his first name; only for now we are calling him Charlie which seems to suit him just fine!   Ricky is after my dad so he is named after both his grandfathers.

Adella Ray - Adella is my Grandmother - my Dad's Mom's - middle name.  It also goes back several generations into the 1800's.  I always thought the name was so pretty and unique.  I've known lots of Adell's but I've never met an Adella!   We love it and it fits her well.   When  we were trying to come up with middle names I knew I wanted a one syllable name and Rae was one of the ones on the list.  It eventually grew on Adam but he insisted that it be spelled Ray.   His reasoning was that it was like a Ray of Sunshine. And then he also said we would also be naming her after my Grandpa (my dad's dad).  The funny thing is that that had never occurred to me!  Once I realized that, Ray it was!

The blessings were both beautiful and Adam relied on the Spirit to direct him in his blessings.  Afterwards he told me it was the strongest he had felt the spirit, next to when we were sealed together.   His overwhelming feeling for Charlie was that he would be a good missionary and would be a good example for others.    He felt Adella would be a happy person and be a joy to be around.  What great blessings!

After Church, we were able to gather back at our house for brunch with some of our family.   Adam's siblings that live in Mesa, along with both sets of his Grandparents and my Mom attended.    It was a great day!

Adella is either not a fan of "clothes" or the idea of going shopping; perhaps both.  I'm sure that won't last long, though Adam would be happy for the sake of his pocketbook.
