Off to Africa!

OK, I am not off to Africa, but these are!What are these you might ask? Well if you are male, you may want to stop reading now.... OK, don't say I didn't warn you!
They are called moon pads, and are basically reusable, feminine hygiene products. Last fall when Kena was living in a place where she was able to accept mail, I asked if there was some sort of project our YW could work on for the girls over in the school she was teaching at. I was fairly shocked by her reply. Apparently the girls there don't have any feminine products and because of that generally stay home from school when they are on their periods. She asked if we could make 100 of these reusable pads, 2 for each girl. Sounds like a great project to me!

The YW were highly involved in the beginning and basically traced the pattern and cut every single piece out in one night! It was amazing! We not only had the basic pad, but also had to make removable liners so there was a lot of cutting! A couple of the girls were really good on the serger and were able to get started on some of the easier serging that night as well.

Since the actual serging was a little difficult due to all the curves, I took over the rest of the project (using if for a personal progress activity!) and finished them up and now they are on their way to Africa, where I hope they get lots of use!

A well played Family Home Evening (out)

Monday night Adam got a call at 5:45 from a certain friend. we pretty much knew what that meant immediately - free tickets to the Diamondbacks! So we hurried our way thru dinner and made a few calls to find another couple to go with and scooted out to the door to pick up the tickets and head to the game. Look how great these seats are! Yep, can't pass those up. Plus the D Backs had been playing pretty good the last few games. And lucky for us, they put on a great show and won that night too!

Here we are enjoying the game! Don't mind my flat hair! I had just gotten a hair cut and did not have time to fix it if we were going to make it to the game on time!

Homemade Pitas!

While my good friend Mary was in town recently, we had to of course try a new recipe. So we went with homemade, whole wheat pitas!

They were actually pretty easy and we had them all figured out after a couple of batches. Here they are on the pan wiaiting to go in the over.

Darn it! I forgot to take a picture of them while they were in the oven and puffed up! But here is the evidence that they actual do make a pocket!

They were really yummy with hummus. The next day we had the leftovers for breakfast, filling them with eggs, bacon, peppers, onions and cheese! Yummy!

More Birthdays!

This month we also celebrated my adorable nephew Brycen's birthday!

And who wouldn't want a pinata at their party?

Especially when its filled with tons of candy...

And especially when no ones stops you from eating all you want!

I don't think he moved from this spot nor made a sound for minutes! He only looked up long enough to hand someone a piece of candy to take the wrapper off for him.

Well we tried....

In honor of the Suns, I made these fun little "cakelets". I promise, they were actually purple and orange though they are bordering on BSU colors!

Adam got me this fun cake pan for my bday, and I just had to try it out!

I guess it didn't really help the Suns win, but they were sure fun to eat!
